URUGUAY
Capital: Montevideo
Currency: Uruguayan Peso (UYU)
Time zone: UTC -3
Official language: Spanish (Español)
Population: 3,324,300 inhabitants (aprox.)

CLIMATE
Located entirely within a temperate zone, Uruguay has a climate that is relatively mild and fairly uniform nationwide. Seasonal variations are pronounced, but extremes in temperature are rare. As would be expected with its abundance of water, high humidity and fog are common. The absence of mountains, which act as weather barriers, makes all locations vulnerable to high winds and rapid changes in weather as fronts or storms sweep across the country. Both summer and winter weather may vary from day to day with the passing of storm fronts, where a hot northerly wind may occasionally be followed by a cold wind (pampero) from the Argentine Pampas.

CUISINE
Food: Asado, a kind of barbecued beef, is the national dish in Uruguay, and other popular foods include beef platters, chivito (steak sandwiches), pasta, barbecued kidneys, and sausages.
Drinks: La grappamiel, Mate and Uruguayan wines.

PUNTA DEL ESTE LOCATION
Punta del Este is a city located at the southern tip of Uruguay, in the department of Maldonado. It is one of the finest resorts in Latin America. It is located on a narrow strip of land that conventionally separates the Rio de la Plata from the Atlantic Ocean. It has a permanent population of 12,423 inhabitants, number reaching 450,000 during the tourist season in summer.

CLIMATE
Punta del Este has a temperate oceanic climate. It is characterized by mild temperatures and abundant rainfall because of the proximity to the ocean. Winters are cold and cool summers with a small annual thermal oscillation (10 ° C on average). Rainfall is abundant and well distributed although with a maximum winter.

Uruguay has various tourist destinations that stand between Punta del Este, Piriápolis, Montevideo, Colonia, Salto, Lavalleja, Rocha, Artigas, Rivera, among others. Tourism is one of the most important sectors of the Uruguayan economy. One of the strongest points of Punta del Este is Gorlero Avenue, the main street of the resort. Around this avenue it was born the tourist life of the city. The nerve center of Gorlero Avenue is Artigas Square, where the popular craft fair takes place; in its many stands you can see and buy handicrafts in leather, stone, metal, glass and other materials. Another place to visit is the Isla Gorriti, you can be accessed via cruise ships, sailboats and barges that depart every hour from the port of Punta del Este. Guests can also arrange helicopter rides.
